Culture and Gender Differences in Willingness to Compete

Abstract We investigate how culture affects gender differences in willingness to compete a large pre-registered experiment using an epidemiological approach. Our sample of 1,943 Norwegians with parents born 59 different countries shows smaller gap among individuals more gender-equal ancestries. The difference is driven by women from wanting and men the same ancestry less. results are robust controlling for set factors at individual, parental ancestral country levels, indicating that gendered shapes competitive preferences.
